Why hasnt the telecomunications companies being able to shut this number down at least if not deal with the scammers using it?

Again, same deal as bank and utilities overcharging to the sum of $5248. Said something about the Gooroman Organization.
While typing this they called back and when the word scam was mentioned he instantly hung up.

Just had an offer of $5464,- from the reclaims department of Australia. They gave me the application code and asked for me to ring back on 02 80069399 to confirm.

I rang back with the following sentence: this is superintendent wayne hall from nsw police in bloodywupwup and i have a fraudulent unsolicited phone call to follow up. They hanged up straight ahead.

Somebody needs to catch those scammers...

I've just received this same call and for exactly the same amount of money . Seemed dodgy from the start but always had an answer. Called the ATO Complaints and Feedback line and the lady said it was definitely a scam. She recommended completing the 'Report a Scam' form on the ATO website and they would do their best to shut them down!!!

All the same, "David Chan" knew my name and address and said that I was entitled to a Govt.("Finance Ministry" - suspect is an Indonesian term) refund for over-paid taxes.........that's where he lost me!!! Govt only takes, and you have to fight to get any back even if you are entitled. Clearly a suck-in.

I received a call on 8 May 2013 about same things - worrying that that knew my address and DOB what shold i do and what is the risk they named Government Department

Norman Parker called from Australian Government Reclaim Dept regarding $5,248.00 that was overcharged by my bank. Tried to get my details from my family member as I was at work. My family member called me for my DOB so that they can send the check. They left ph 0280069399. I called them Back and asked why they want to give me money. Asked for their website but was unable to provide a correct one. Caller was pretending to be local Australian. Could not pronounce his name VIC Wilson properly. I searched for the number on the internet and found this website which was really helpful. Thanks to everyone who shared their experience

Pretty much the same story except I spoke with "Norman Parker" from the "Reclaim Dept" regarding my $5,248.00 "bank overcharges". They told me I had to pay $199 at the Post Office to cover legal fees and my cheque would be received within 24-48 hours. When I wouldn't give them my DOB they hung up ...

same as the other people the offer was to recuperated and over charged by the bank of $5248.00 dollar supported by the Recovery Revenue from the Goverment AS THEY SAY, first contact NAME WAS MARIA NO NAME FROM SHE WAS CALLING give phone number to go ahead with 02 80069399 talk to Jacqueline she refer to Goverment cheque #0758 personal id to claim cheque 058722 previous deposit of $140.00dollars

$5248 promise, just had to call James Cooper and provide my special claim code.
They almost had an answer to everything. except for an answer to "where is 32 wallaby way, sydney?". (finding nemo). I told him it was just around the corner their office in pitt street.
They did not know the address.
He eventually hung up after I gave him an ear full.

I also got a call from a lady who could barely speck english saying I was entitled to a payment for over charge fees on accounts from the Australian Government for $5248 to be either deposited into my account or a check,sent to me. I needed to call back the manager James Cooper with a number and my cheque would be released. When I asked if I could phone tomorrow as I was picking up children I was told no I needed to phone now as this manager had 14,000 people to contact, sounds suspicious, why the urgency to phone back?

This was an unsolicited call purporting to offer a cheque Payment of $5,248 from the Federal Government for overcharging.
Someone named Richard Smith was going to hand deliver my cheque from the Australian Government.
However there was a fee attached for lawyer payments.They had my name and address.I told them I would be reporting themn to appropriate authorirties.

Someone calling themselves Sam Adams called my mother using this number. Same details as per the others, claiming a govt refund for $5248 wanted her to call back with a claim number and confirm her DOB name and address

As per Andrew Adams 30Jan13. Exact same amount and unconvincing story, but caller did have my name and address. Call asks to "call back my manager on this number to arrange for your cheque to be sent". "Please confirm date of birth and tell me which bank you want your cheque from - Commonwealth, NAB, ANZ etc." Didn't ask for bank a/c details or similar as I was expecting?? Maybe this is a new scam and they are going through a list alphabetically? Are they simply mining for bits of information for future attempts to hack bank accounts or similar? I called the number out of curiosity and got no reply?
